Chattanooga Paint Correction — Swirl Marks, Oxidation & Water Spots Removed

Paint correction uses abrasive compounds and machine polishers to remove defects from the clear coat — swirl marks, oxidation, water spot etching — and restore genuine gloss. Flat quote after paint assessment. We come to you.

When You Need Paint Correction

Swirl marks that catch light in direct sun from every angle. A hood or roof that looks chalky and dull no matter how recently you washed it. Water spot etching that won't come out with a regular wash. Paint that looked fine five years ago but now has no depth or gloss. These are clear coat defects — micro-scratches and oxidation that live in the outermost layer of your paint. Wax and sealant can fill them temporarily, but they come back. Paint correction actually removes the defective clear coat material through controlled abrasion, leaving a smooth, reflective surface underneath. If you're planning to apply a ceramic coating, correction first is almost always required — coating locks in whatever condition the paint is in when applied.

How Paint Correction Works

Step 1 — Paint inspection: Under proper lighting, we assess the type and depth of defects. Surface swirl marks are correctable. Deep scratches through the clear coat to base coat are not correctable through polishing — we tell you this honestly before we start and won't charge you for something that won't produce the result you're expecting.

Step 2 — Decontamination: Full hand wash followed by clay bar treatment to remove bonded surface contamination. You can't accurately assess paint defects through a layer of bonded pollen and industrial fallout.

Step 3 — Compound cut (if needed): A machine polisher with a cutting pad and abrasive compound removes the defective clear coat material. This is the aggressive phase that actually eliminates swirl marks and oxidation. Heavier defects require a more abrasive compound and more passes.

Step 4 — Refining polish: The compound cut leaves micro-marring from the abrasives. A refining polish with a softer pad removes those, restoring depth and gloss. This is what separates professional correction from a single-step machine buff.

Step 5 — Protection: A corrected surface needs protection applied immediately — wax, sealant, or ceramic coating. We recommend the right option based on your goals and budget.

What Does Paint Correction Cost?

Paint correction in Chattanooga runs $300–$750. One-stage correction on a moderately swirled sedan starts around $300. Two-stage correction (compound cut plus refining polish) on a heavily oxidized truck or SUV can run $600–$750. Vehicle size and defect severity both drive cost. The estimate is free and starts with a paint assessment — see our full pricing guide.

What does paint correction fix?

Swirl marks, light scratches, water spot etching, oxidation, and buffer trails in the clear coat. It does not fix deep scratches that go through the clear coat to base coat or primer — those require touch-up paint or bodywork. We'll tell you which is which at the assessment.

Will paint correction remove all scratches?

No — and any detailer who promises otherwise is overselling. Correction removes clear coat defects. Deep scratches that penetrate to base coat or primer are beyond correction. We assess your paint and show you what's achievable before any work starts. No surprises.

How long does paint correction take?

One-stage correction runs 4–6 hours on a standard sedan. Two-stage correction runs 6–10 hours. Full-size vehicles take longer. We give you a time window at booking so you can plan accordingly.
